CBD joints from The Border: everything you want to know

CBD is slowly but surely conquering the market. Although not everything regarding the positive effects of CBD has been scientifically proven, it seems that many medical conditions can benefit from the use of CBD. Until recently, CBD oil was the most popular, but people are now also discovering the CBD joint. And you can now buy your CBD joint at your favorite coffeeshop in Amsterdam.

But what exactly is a CBD joint? You may know that the THC content of a CBD joint is less than that of a regular joint, but what is in it? And which CBD joint is the best?

The CBD joint explained

What was CBD again? CBD is the abbreviation for Cannabidiol. This is a cannabinoid found naturally in cannabis plants. The difference between a CBD joint and a normal joint is the THC content. The THC content in normal joints varies between 15% and 25%. According to research (by the Dutch Trimbos Institute), the most popular and best-selling cannabis joints have a THC content of 16.7%. The CBD joints we sell at the Border contain less than 0.2% THC. So that is quite a difference with regular joints.

You do not buy CBD joints to get high, but because they can have a positive effect on certain health issues. For example, CBD can relieve pain, help with stress complaints and reduce depressive symptoms. CBD is also used by cancer patients to relieve the side effects of chemotherapy, among other things. And people with epilepsy, schizophrenia, and PTSD also seem to benefit from CBD.

What our CBD joints contain

The 2-pack joints you buy from coffeeshop The Border Amsterdam contain a mix of tops from the hemp plant. This mix is composed by The Border’s supplier. Because they contain mixed tops the CBD joints contain multiple types of terpenes/flavors. But, don’t worry: we don’t just sell you anything. All our CBD weed is extensively tested by the lab assistants of cannabis test lab High Lab. This lab is specialized in the analysis of CBD weed. Each analysis is accompanied by a certificate, which states which substances are present in the CBD weed and to what extent.

Finola strain

All CBD strains we sell and process come from the Finola variety. This is an EU-approved hemp strain developed by Sam Skunkman and Dr. JC Callaway. The Finola variety is known for its high CBD levels in mature plants and was previously known as FIN-314. The hemp variety is also known for its high formation of the terpene alpha-pinene. This terpene promotes freer breathing by providing relief to the respiratory system.

So although all our CBD joints come from the same variety there is a difference in taste. For example, we sell CBD skunk and CBD strawberry joints. Which CBD joint is the best is up to you to decide. Over-heating? Treat yourself to cannabis ice cream

You already know that weed isn’ just for smoking. And we don’t have to tell you either that with the summer temperatures of July you can use something to cool you down. That’s why we have an extra summery treat in store for you: cannabis-banana ice cream. Really? Yes, really. You can easily make it at home and you only need 7 ingredients. Of course, you can buy the weed at your favorite coffeeshop in Amsterdam: The Border.

Recipe cannabis ice cream

Ripe bananas for recipe cannabis ice cream

Let’s start with the ingredients. To make cannabis ice cream at home, you need the following:

about 450 grams of ripe bananas
500 milliliters of cream
30 grams of butter
10 grams of finely ground weed
5 tablespoons of sugar
5 tablespoons of honey
3 tablespoons of rum
pinch of salt
optional: small amount of beetroot or cherry juice

And this is how you make it

First, pour the cream into a saucepan and heat it up. Just make sure it doesn’t reach the boiling point. As soon as the cream has warmed up you can add the finely ground weed.
Meanwhile, melt the butter in another saucepan and mix it with the sugar and a pinch of salt. Make sure the butter doesn’t get too hot by turning down the heat as soon as the butter has melted.
Then mix the two mixtures. Beat it by hand or use a mixer until you reach a light and creamy consistency. Optional: add a little of beet or cherry juice to your cannabis banana ice cream to give it a summery color.
Mash the ripe bananas in a large bowl until smooth and add the cream mixture. Mix it well and add the honey and rum. Keep beating until the mixture is creamy and airy.
Done? Put the mixture into the freezer for at least 3 hours. Use a rectangular, plastic or silicone tray or container. Check every now and then to see if the banana ice cream has hardened enough and reached the consistency of ice cream.

Once the banana ice cream has hardened nicely, you can use an ice scoop to scoop out the ice cream. Decorate with whatever you want and enjoy your cannabis banana ice cream. Invite some friends or your neighbor over to join you. The more the merrier, right?

Don’t feel like going through the trouble of making your own weed ice cream? Soon, all you have to do for a scoop of cannabis ice cream is walking to your local supermarket. Seriously? Yes. The American company Ben & Jerry’s is eager to bring cannabis ice cream on the market soon.

They are developing an ice cream that contains CBD (cannabidiol), a cannabis oil that contains virtually no THC. So you won’t get high from eating their ice cream, but you will benefit from all the health benefits of cannabis. Research shows that CBD helps with stress, insomnia, spasms, pain and more.

More and more countries are therefore legalizing the substance. CBD occurs naturally in the hemp plant (just like THC) and therefore falls under the Opium Act in the Netherlands. In order to keep the production of CBD legal, hemp is currently produced in the Netherlands and processed abroad into CBD oil, after which it can be sold in the Netherlands again.

CBD is therefore not yet fully legal in the Netherlands. Whether the ice cream of Ben & Jerry’s can also be sold in our country is therefore questionable. Fortunately, you can always use our recipe to get your ice cream fix. However, it is expected that CBD will soon be recognized as a medicine in the Netherlands, as is already the case in the United Kingdom, and that will probably result in the legalization of CBD oil production and processing altogether. Fingers crossed.

Live at Amsterdamse Bos

The Amsterdam Bostheater, an intimate amphitheater, has become pretty famous in Amsterdam. At this special place in the Amsterdamse Bos, a series of open-air concerts will take place during the summer. Cozy, romantic and 100% Amsterdam. The first concerts already started in May, but don’t worry. Live at Amsterdamse Bos has concerts planned until September. Some of the artists that will enter the stage are De Dijk (NL), Band of Horses (US) and the British trip-hop pioneers Morcheeba (UK). Make sure to get your tickets before the concerts sell out.

Vunzige deuntjes festival

This year, after a completely sold out festival in 2018, the Vunzige Deuntjes festival will return to our backyard. When? On Saturday, July 20. Tickets are still available, so make sure we see you there. Ronnie Flex & Deuxperience, Broederliefde, Tabitha and Freddy Moreira, among others, will perform. Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes.

Dekmantel festival

In the mood for some serious beats? From August 2-4 you can visit Dekmantel festival at the Amsterdamse Bos. With a line-up that knocks your socks off! Ben UFO & Blawan, John Talabot, Marcel Dettmann, Motor City Drum Ensemble are just some of the great artists on the line-up. For those who still have energy left after a day of dancing in the open-air, various afterparties will be organized in the city. Or you can drop by our coffeeshop. We are open until 01.00 AM.
